A slow walk

Yesterday evening I was in the mood to make my way into the center.  I ate a nice light dinner and I was off.  I took it slow.  When I parked my bike in Piazza Signoria, I noticed my friends at Lorenzaccio were busy as can be.  I waved to my friends and decided to wander back that way later.  I walked through the corridor of the Uffizi Gallery admiring the frescoes I could sneak a pick of.  I made my way towards the Ponte Vecchio since I haven't stepped foot on it since I arrived back.  I walked slow.  I looked over toward San Frediano and was amazed at the colors in the sky.  So vibrant yet calm.  Continuing along the Oltrarno, moving slowly towards San Niccolo.  Then I decided to play a game with myself.  Usually my pace when I walk is rather brisk.  Yet normally I am in no hurry.  More often than not, I am no in no hurry.  So as people passed me, talking loudly on their mobiles, agruing with loved ones, and just on a mission to make it to Ponte della Grazie before me, I slowed down even more.  Counting to 5 before I took another step.  It was amazing what else I was able to see.  As Pasquale said the other night, vai piano con tuo corpo e vai velocemente per capirsi.  (Go slow with your body, go fast to understand).

I saw a gorgeous evening.  Full of togetherness and interesting conversation.  I spied on a family eating on their terrace.  I heard laughter and dishes clanging.  It must have been a hilarious joke.   I watched couples grabbed one anothers hands as they sped off to dinner.  I glanced at amateur photographers setting up the perfect shot.

Taking streets and alleys I haven't walked down in a long time, I found myself on Via dei Benci.  I took a side street since there was a parade of some sort blocking the road.  I then ran right into the parade.  Exchanging smiles with a few people, I felt so incredibly happy.  I continued down alleys away from the crowds.  I was on a quest to really listen to my city.

I traveled by the Duomo and checked out where the one of the restaurants I need to visit and sample the food.  I made a giro and followed some people back to Piazza Signoria.  Where the crowds at the restaurants had dispersed and I was able to properly greet my friends.  I was told 'I look well and seem very happy'.  Just what I want to hear.

I ended my journey by having a glass of white wine.  The city had expressed, I'm tired too, why don't you go to bed, Katie.  After my glass of wine, I responded.

a presto amici!!
