3 Days away

3 days till I am a UK and EU citizen.  I cannot believe it is happening.  I am beyond words.

I will just say this:

I am truly grateful for having all my dreams come true thus far.

The bike is waiting for me.

a presto amici!!

Hi Katie...so does that mean you give up your American Citizen or do you have dual....Isn't it strange that you say British and European...just like me..

A lot of British people would disagree with you and I, saying that they are not Europeans just British...and lord help you if you called an English, Scottish or Welsh man/woman European...

I know what I am and sticking to it!!! I have an Irish mother, a Maltese father, I was born in Northern Ireland which to me is British....so therefore British European

Yeah I know Anne, I have family in and around London.  I understand the comparison I have made and hope no one will come out and get me.

Citizenship is mostly a legal thing, and all citizens of EU member countries are also EU citizens according to one of the innumerable treaties - so I'm both a Danish and an EU citizen.

I'm not an European citizen, because such a thing does not exist formally, even though people will often say "European" when the really should be saying "EU". Europe is much larger than the EU.

Many people confuses citizenship with national or regional identity. A person from the UK can feel British but not feel "European", but that person cannot claim not to be an EU citizen.

Katerina will become a UK and EU citizen, but it says nothing about her national identity or any other kind of identity.

Congratulations Katerina! Dual citizenship is great accomplishment. I have been gathering documentsfor 3 years to become an Italian and EU citizen, keeping my US citizenship. Finally have my appointment at the Italian Consulate in the US to apply in June (along with my daugher, Grace and son, David. (Spouse has to apply later). Maybe I'll have my EU passport before I teach my Italy Retreat Workshop in the Italian Riviera!

I live in Iowa. I'll be teaching my workshop in Monterosso al Mare, the northernmost town of the Cinque Terre from Sept. 10-20, then will study at an Italian Language school, maybe in Verona, for 2 weeks. Where are you?

I thought I recognized the view behind the bike as Fiesole. Is that where the photo was taken? Will post about the homeless mom and 3 children from your 'blogher of the week' winner, on my second blog, TheHappinessZone.blogspot.com. What a great post for Mother's Day and what a moving story. It still confounds me how this can happen in America.
