New Favorite Italian Phrases
In the upcoming months will be the 7th time I will set foot on Italy's soil and the many adventures I have experience on the Florentine cobblestones. Starting with Italian. I have picked up much more Italian since 2002. I have a new list of my favorite phrases and sayings in Italian.
Non vedo l'ora di rivederti! - I can't wait to see you again!
I remember when I learned this. I was sitting at lunch with my gal pal Alush and I always use the phrase "I can't wait" and finally I drilled it into my brain that day. I have been saying it since I was declared a Brit as well.
Meno male - Thank God!
I used to say this in a different context. One day I finally I got. Meno male sono una cittadina inglese!
(Thank God, I am a British citizen!)
Ce la posso fare - I can manage it
I learned this phrase last summer and used it quite a lot when I was in between houses and jobs. Thanks to Manon, Yan and Giuseppe I was not homeless near the end.
Diventero` piena di me - I will become full of myself
I have been know to be modest and but this phrase works when you are pretending to be modest when you are actually growing a big head on how fabulous your Italian is. haha! I am kidding, I am not good in Italian. I try.
Sono li con pensiero or Sono li con lo spirito - I am there in spirit
I am in Florence always in spirit, soon in body.
Prendo un caffe - I'll take a coffee
Posso avere un caffe - Can I have a coffee?
Either way will do, the first one is more common. I sometimes use the second one when I am at a bar or ristorante that I don't know the owners or waitstaff.
I love Italian. So fun to learn the meaning of words and the relate them to your life. Keeps the mind stimulated, no?
a presto amici!
