I am a British Citizen
Today is a day I will never forget. I received in the mail my papers that state I am legally a BRITISH CITIZEN! As most of you know, if you have been following my journey to become an Italian citizen through my Grandmother and now here I am. I was able to obtain citizenship through my Mother who was born in London. I cannot believe my day has finally come! I am a legal EU citizen now! It took only 2 and a half month for me to receive it. I will never have to wait for a permesso or a visa again to be in Florence. I can apply for residency after 3 months.
I am sooooo HAPPY!!! Thank you Mom for being born in England! Thank you Nana for marrying Papa in Ledbury and then having Mom in England.
I am forever grateful!
Now the fun part begins: planning my trip back in a manner that isn't impulsive or weighs heavy on my money belt. I want to be smart and fly back to Florence with a clear mind and a plan in order to find a job and a place to live. I have been lucky in having many close friends willing to assist in my search or even find an apartment for me so it is one less worry for me. I have no time line for the exact month I will venture over the pond. However, I know I want to make a trip to London first to visit with my fabulous cousins and then fly down to Florence from there. Less expensive route. My savings is quite high(thanks to taxes and Obama) so I am thinking with a budget now.
I know the job market everywhere is not fabulous, but I am staying positive. This is still MY YEAR!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to all my friends who have been listening to me whine over this for years. I have nothing to complain about ever again.

OMG, Congrats! It's very hard to become an EU citizen! I know a Filipino family who's lived and toiled in Rome (travel industry) for 20+ years and their kids all born there...but not even the kids were given citizenship.
By the way, I love your blog. Found it through Gennaro's Enduring Wanderlust. Hope you don't mine me following / stalking (haha) your blog. I and my husband are very much into Italian culture, food, you name it! We even named our daughter GIADA!
