La Bella Figura

La Bella Figura is an Italian practice I have known about but last night, I learned that I am came across as La Brutta Figura.  Let me define this Italian philosophy for you all(and those of you that already know this, play along for my sake)

La Bella Figura meaning literally "the beautiful figure" but in full, it is a way of expressing yourself in beauty, good image, aesthetics and proper behavior.
Even though most people thinks of the physical side of La Bella Figura, ever so often I forget about the part about etiquette.  Speaking and presenting oneself with elegance and granduer in particular situations.  It is basically behaving properly, appropriately and respectfully is crucial in maintaining the right air of Bella Figura both in family situations as well as in the business world. Essentially putting your best foot forward and presenting yourself to world in the best way you can.

I guess I understand it as giving back to the world with your beautiful energy, your beautiful look, and your beautiful attitude towards people around you.

I am asking all my blogging friends out there, if your ever had an issue like mine and how did you explain yourself afterward.  Or do you just have to learn from that circumstance and move on and try your best the next time. I am not usually like that.  I have no excuse but that I wasn't myself last night just didn't feel like talking to his business partners.  I think it is that I am leaving Florence again and I was in a funk basically.

Please give me advice!!!!

“Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful.”

Ah, that happens to everyone my friend. Usually I just say, "scusa, ho fatto una brutta figura " and get on with it. Maybe also explain how you were feeling (leaving Florence, sad, not yourself), and remind him that you're from another culture and are still figuring out these things? And then just keep your chin up and move forward, knowing what to do next time.

Though the term "la bella figura" is not used in Argentina, the concept is still very heavy. For example, I have to remember to kiss every single person in the room (every. single. person.) upon entering and exiting. Miss one person and I've offended someone. Little things like that can be exhausting to keep track of, man!

I think you should just not lose confidence, and show up next time with all of them with 'la bella figura'...then they'll probably figure out that you were just having 'one of those days' like everyone does!

*too bad we'll miss each other again. I told Chris that it's crazy that we seem to be on the exact opposite Florence schedule. It's almost literally the day of or day after that one of us leaves, the other one gets there

And so, change is in the air... I sense a bit of sadness. Don't let the red tape cut too heavily into your dreams, meanwhile, a recoup could be great, just what you need to refocus and regenerate your energy towards enjoying the present and planning for the future. Everyone feels moments of total brutto, it makes the bella moments so worthwhile. Thinking of you! xxx Monika

As for the Bella Figura---tomorrow is another day.

I hope you haven't left my Firenze without eating at it's best restaurant, just across the Ponte Trinita on the Via di Santo Spirito---Olio e Convivium!

    Buona Fortuna!

Grazie Davide!  I believe I have eaten there but I am not sure.  I have been living in Italy back and forth in 6 years.  I am sure I have, I love the Santo Spirito area.
